AUTOS: January Car Calendar

A look at the top auto events happening this month, including Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale and the other major Arizona auctions.

It’s January, so all eyes in the world of car collectors and aficionados turn toward Scottsdale and Phoenix, Arizona, for no fewer than six major auctions, including the 42nd annual edition of the massive Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale event.

Here are the upcoming Arizona events:

• Bidding starts Jan 15 for Barrett-Jackson at WestWorld in Scottsdale and runs through Jan. 20. SPEED will broadcast nearly 39 hours of live auction action, with contests and interactive events included. Details: Barrett-Jackson.

• Russo and Steele hosts its high-powered auction Jan. 16-20 at the improved and expanded site at Scottsdale Road and Loop 101 in Scottsdale. Details: Russo and Steele.

• Bonhams will conduct its second annual Scottsdale collector-car auction Jan. 17 at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa. Details: Bonhams.

• RM Auctions returns to the Biltmore Resort in Phoenix for its always-impressive sale Jan. 17-18. Details: RM Auctions.

• Gooding & Company brings its high-caliber collection to Scottsdale for a sale Jan. 18-19 at its site on Camelback Road just west of Scottsdale Road. Details: Gooding & Company.

• Silver Auctions’ friendly collector-car event happens Jan. 18-19 at the Fort McDowell Resort and Casino northeast of Scottsdale. Details: Silver Auctions.

Other events around the country:

• Mecum’s Kissimmee High-Performance Auction takes place Jan. 18-27 with more than 3,000 vehicles for sale at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Fla. Details: Mecum Auction.

• The 64th annual Grand National Roadster Show, a world-famous event with more than 500 top hot rods and custom cars competing for awards including the coveted America’s Most Beautiful Roadster prize, happens Jan 25-27 at the Fairplex in Pomona, Ca. Details: Grand National.
