Ganassi plans to get Franchitti acquainted with stock car racing via ARCA, like he did Montoya. (LAT photo) MORE NASCAR PHOTOS ยป More Photos
There still hasn't been an official announcement about NASCAR but Dario Franchitti will be testing one of Chip Ganassi's stock cars at Talladega later this month in preparation for the ARCA race on Oct. 5.

"That's the plan," said Ganassi on Sunday night. "There's an open test on Sept. 27th so we'll run that and then come back for the race."

Ganassi didn't elaborate on Franchitti's future but the 2007 Indy 500 and IRL champion is expected to be
named as the full-time Cup driver of Ganassi's No. 40 car later this week.

Running the high-banked superspeedway in Alabama would give Franchitti a taste of what to expect next February at Daytona.

It's believed the 34-year-old Scotsman, whose open-wheel career in the United States began in 1997 in CART, has signed a five-year contract to run in NASCAR's premier series. And that goes against Franchitti's style of signing only one-year contracts.
