Robin Miller "When Kyle Busch and even Ryan Newman before him, when they started out, they started out with a bunch of ARCA races and a few Nationwide races. Is there some thought to running more ARCA races? Yesterday you talked about this might be the only ARCA race but seems like the more the merrier."
Danica Patrick "I think it’s really about the schedule, too. As you said, I must not like sleeping much but running the full IndyCar Series and that being the focus but this filling in the blanks but also making sure it is not filling in so many I can’t perform in IndyCar like I want to, we have to be careful. I think that if the opportunity was there to run an ARCA race and it was easy and convenient, we’d probably do it but I also think the real focus is going to be running in the Nationwide races though."
Robin Miller "There was a report in
USA Today and I think
AP today saying you weren't going to run Daytona. You didn’t say yesterday. You said you would see how the ARCA race went and see how things felt, right?"
Danica Patrick "Yea, I think it’s premature to make a decision like that. I think it’s been suggested by many people that maybe that’s the craziest place to start, because you’re running a Cup race for your first race, which that’s the point of running Nationwide is that it’s not a Cup race but that one is because there’s so many Cup guys in it. It’s been suggested maybe you start the next weekend. I don’t know, I’m just listening to all the suggestions. That’s why I’m running Nationwide. That’s why I’m doing this ARCA race, because that was everybody’s suggestion of what to do and I’m of course being a driver and competitive and wanting to be at the top. I thought we’d go from IndyCar to Cup but that’s not what people said is a good idea so if somebody says don’t run Daytona, then I won’t run Daytona. It’s not the end of the world."
Robin Miller "It’s not like you’re getting bad advice. I think Junior knows what he’s talking about. I mapped out the schedule, you could run Daytona, Fontana and Vegas and maybe an IndyCar test in February but there’s really some opportunities to run quite a bit before the season and the season ends so early there is a bunch. Have you thought about, will you try to sprinkle some in During IndyCar season?"
Danica Patrick "Yeah, I think the plan is to run a few races through the summer after Indy maybe so that’s the idea right now. We still haven’t nailed down exactly the places we’re going to go to but do plan on running a few."
Robin Miller "You see in the drivers’ meeting there is the kid that used to run in Formula One, Narain Karthikeyan, he’s here and your friend Milka is here. There are all these open wheel drivers, ARCA is the road to what, Formula One, Formula One is the road to ARCA. It’s like this mass exodus. I don’t know if they’re following you or they are just thinking maybe how this is an opportunity and maybe there is a lot of closed doors in open wheel."
Danica Patrick "Lets face it, it’s the end of December and people are still working. So it’s an opportunity to come run. The ARCA race is the first weekend in February, so it gets things started before Nationwide and Cup starts so if that is the route you want to go its good practice, which is exactly what I’m doing."
Robin Miller "Now the other thing you need to practice on is your accent because you aren’t quite southern enough yet."
Danica Patrick "It does rub off on me but I run the risk, Robin, of I don’t want to sound like I’m making fun of anyone."
Robin Miller "They get it. You have to talk about wedge."
Danica Patrick "They do sound like this."
Robin Miller "Daniker, that’s what they’ll call you. Daniker."
Danica Patrick "I love it when my engineer who is English, I love it when he tries to speak like he’s from America it’s funny. I walk into the engineering room and say hallow. I guess its okay."
Robin Miller "If we mic you and Tony Eury, just to hear your conversation will be fun because you’ll say, this pig is pushing and he’ll say I don't know what she is saying."
Danica Patrick "I didn’t know what he was saying the other day because he was once you get that car under that yaw and I was like, y’all? You call it a y’all and then I found out its some engineering term called yaw. Y-a-w. I was like there you go, that’s me, that’s how smart I am. They call loose a y’all.
Robin Miller "Y’all stick around, because Ms. Danica will run this afternoon. We’ll talk to her at 6:00 and she’ll tell us about yaw and wedge and all of that stuff."
