The NASCAR Nextel All-Star Challenge at Lowe's Motor Speedway has always been about taking NASCAR's very best drivers and turning them loose in a no-holds-barred dash for the cash. With no points to worry about and a million dollar purse for the winner, there are good reasons that the race's unofficial motto over the years has been "wreckers or checkers."

Here, drivers only care about winning and more than a few have wrecked trying. But first and foremost, they have to make it into the race. And that in
itself is a formidable task.

So here's how you get in and who's in:

WINNERS OF RACES THIS YEAR AND LAST YEAR Any driver who won a race in 2006 or 2007 is eligible, as is the winning car owner, even if his team has changed drivers. Those in the field via race victories are: Greg Biffle, Jeff Burton, Kurt Busch, Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Jeff Gordon, Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson, Kasey Kahne, Matt Kenseth, Tony Stewart and Brian Vickers. Casey Mears is also eligible because he drives the No. 25 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, which won a race last year with Brian Vickers driving. That makes a total of 14 drivers.
