For 2007, Sprint Nextel has brought back the Nextel Fan Vote, a fan-driven voting competition that will award one team a starting spot in the May 19 NASCAR Nextel All-Star Challenge at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Voting began on Sprint or Nextel phones April 1.
"The Nextel Fan Vote is one of the most climactic moments of the NASCAR Nextel All-Star Challenge," said Dean Kessel, director of NASCAR Nextel Cup Series marketing for Sprint Nextel. "This year's ballot includes several drivers that are considered perennial all-stars. We anticipate that having a deep field of top drivers will likely keep voting tight through May 19."
The All-Star Challenge field consists of drivers who have won a points race in 2006 or 2007, active All-Star Challenge winners within the past 10 seasons and active past Nextel Cup Series champions within the past 10 seasons. For the Nextel Fan Vote, fans will select one driver among the top 50 in NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series driver point standings who is not already qualified.
HOW TO VOTE:
Voting can be completed via the following channels:
Text "NASCAR" to 7777 on a Sprint or Nextel web-enabled phone and follow the received directions. Standard text messaging and data rates apply.
Vote online at
Vote trackside at the Nextel Experience or at participating Sprint and Nextel retail locations.
The winner of the Nextel Fan Vote will be announced following the Nextel Open during Nextel All-Star Challenge pre-race festivities on May 19th. The event will be broadcast live exclusively on SPEED, with coverage beginning at 7 p.m. EDT.
Tickets for the NASCAR Nextel All-Star Challenge start at just $29 and can be obtained at the Lowe's Motor Speedway ticket office, online at www.lowesmotorspeedway.com or by calling 1-800-455-FANS.
